  • Season 2, Relator
  • Learn what Relator looks like when you use theme dynamics, and how it combines with and complements your other talent themes.

On this Theme Thursday Season 2 webcast, Jim Collison, Gallup's Director of Talent Sourcing, and Maika Leibbrandt, Gallup Advanced Learning and Development Consultant, discussed the theme of Relator.

The heart of Relator is the courage to love. Relators take relationships very seriously. People exceptionally talented in the Relator theme enjoy close relationships with others. They find deep satisfaction in working with friends to achieve a goal. Friendship is a necessity for people with Relator. The power and edge of Relator is people who form especially strong, solid, genuine and mutually-rewarding relationships. These relationships are caring and trusting. Maika often thinks of Relator as "social Intellection" because it goes to a deeper level in its relationships. Relators intentionally build connections with others and is driven by wanting relationships with longevity and depth.

Raw Relator can be closed, picky, and selective because it can be overwhelmed by the need to make an investment in relationships with others. Sometimes, it is hard for raw Relator to decide who to invest in. Mature Relator is curious and open to a connection with all people and is always open to finding someone who might become a best friend. Raw Relator can be full -- it sees relationship as all or nothing, while mature Relator is flexible and sees the spectrum of potential friendships. Mature Relator understands there are levels of intimacy. Raw Relator can be so hungry for connection that those relationships feel transactional, while mature Relator is fed by friendship. It gets energy from spending time with its inner circle.
