Called to Coach Recap: Carin Rockind
(July 18, 2014)

On the last Called to Coach we hosted strengths coach and motivational speaker, Carin Rockind. Carin is an international bestselling author, SiriusXM’s “Happiness Guru,” and is known as “The Woman’s Positive Psychologist.”

Carin got into coaching and positive psychology when she volunteered to be a mentor to a group of high school girls. These girls were experiencing insecurities, and Carin was there to bring positivity to their lives by affirming that they had great things to offer to the world. The impact she made gave her so much fulfillment that she knew she wanted to continue to bring positivity to individuals. This was her call to coach.

One of the most important aspects of coaching, Carin says, is to make clients curious about their lives from a strengths perspective. Get them to ask themselves questions like, “When do I feel the most alive?” and, “When do I feel most proud of myself?” She says getting in a positive state of mind will trickle down into other aspects of an individual’s life.

Talent vs. Strength
Talents can be metaphorically compared to muscles. Everyone is born with talents, and each person has a unique set of talents in which they naturally excel. If those talents aren’t developed, however, they struggle to become strengths. Comparatively, everyone has bicep muscles; if we don’t work those muscles, they won’t become strong and defined. As StrengthsFinder 2.0 clearly defines: Talent x Investment = Strength.
